The Arab Slave Trade: Misconceptions and Truths

Long before the Atlantic trade, a slave trade already ran across the Sahara and over the Indian Ocean. An honest treatment in two directions: the misconceptions (that Islam supposedly invented slavery or, conversely, abolished it, or that it was mild) and the truths (the eunuch trade and the Zanj revolt, but also the structural differences from the hereditary, racialized plantation slavery of the New World).
